While there are many organizations at Virginia Tech aimed at helping college students, only one is geared toward empowering and uplifting college women.

Her Campus is an online magazine and organization that spreads across 360 different colleges and 11 countries. As put by the Her Campus website, “Her Campus is the #1 media site for college women, written entirely by the world’s top college journalists.”

“We serve as a news outlet whether it be in regard to style, politics or news around the world. Overall we provide a more engaging opportunity for students to learn about events that are going on,” said Camden Carpenter, the vice president of Her Campus Virginia Tech.

The Virginia Tech chapter consists of three teams: the editorial team who writes the articles, the social media team who promotes the articles, and finally the street team who plans any events that may happen throughout the year.

Her Campus Virginia Tech also partners with brands, giving members exposure to what it’s like to work and interact with different companies that they might not have had the chance to experience on their own.

“Having the opportunity to work first hand with the products and see what it’s like gives you so many opportunities to learn how to market through social media or cover content on it. Her Campus gives you the opportunity to expand into whatever career you want to go into,” said Carpenter.

Not only is the organization impacting those who join, but those who read the articles as well. Kaitlyn Horinko, the president of Her Campus Virginia Tech owes the chapter’s impact on the women of Virginia Tech to its members.

“Because we have such a diverse and inclusive group of women, we are able to talk about the things that matter to us as well as the things that are impacting us on campus,” said Horinko.

As for what’s next for Her Campus Virginia Tech, Horinko said that the organization is committed to getting better, and is always looking for ways that they can make improvements to the chapter.
