When it comes to preparing students at Virginia Tech for a future in consulting, one organization at Virginia Tech is providing students with the tools they need to succeed.
According to the Consulting Group at Virginia Tech website, CGVT serves as an advisor to start ups, student organizations, university departments and well-established businesses. With connections to firms in various industries, Virginia Tech students get first hand experience into what a career in pro bono consulting is like.
Nava Vahidi, a junior at Virginia Tech, said she found the consulting group after struggling to determine exactly which career path she wanted to take.
“I had a few friends who were Industrial and Systems Engineering majors, Computer Engineering majors, and Business in Technology majors and they were all on the same kind of path as I was. I got introduced to the Consulting Group through them and decided it was a good organization to join to figure out what I wanted to do with my career.”
Simply put by Alpine Consulting, a company that works with CGVT, people who work in consulting are problem solvers. Alpine Consulting is just one of the many companies who have visited Virginia Tech to provide CGVT with workshops and insight into what it’s like to work in consulting after college.
“I really like how it’s real work,” said junior Daniel Baek, “The fact that we’ve worked with real businesses and have talked to them as real clients has really helped my career development.”
As for the future of CGVT students, the Consulting Group website says that their members are continuously being hired by prestigious firms across all industries – all thanks to the skills learned and connections made through the organization.
